Disability Access Statement

Our holiday cottage is a traditional Welsh cottage built around 1860.  The architecture and sloping nature of the site may limit accessibilty for some disabled people. In order to help potential guests to make an informed decision, we provide an access statement as follows.

Parking is on the road outside the property.  There is a raised kerb and a step down onto the pavement by the front door.  If you park further downhill, beyond the next house, the step can be avoided.  The doorstep is a low level and there is a slightly raised doorframe.

The front door opens inwards into an uncluttered hallway.  The ground floor comprises a lounge and kitchen/diner which have a laminate floor.  The bathroom is on the same level, accessed from the lounge, and has a ceramic tiled floor.

Patio doors from the lounge open outwards to a decked area.  Again the doorframe is slightly raised.  At the end of the decked area are two steps leading down to a decked patio area with a table and four chairs. There is no handrail fitted to these two steps.  There are two further sets of steps leading down to two other seating areas, one under cover, the other being beside the Neath Canal.  The canal is unfenced.

Access to the first floor is via stairs from the lounge. The flight has tapered treads and turns to the left through ninety degrees.  There is a handrail on the right.  The stairs, landing and bedrooms are carpeted.  Walls are uniform in colour with contrasting doorframes,  All doors are pine.

Lighting in the lounge provides a combination of wall and ceiling lights which can be dimmed. Light switches are no higher than 1400mm from the floor downstairs, and are approximately 1000mm from the floor in the bedrooms.  All power points are low level except the worktop-level points in the kitchen.

The television/dvd player has a remote control with subtitles facility.  There is no telephone.

The kitchen has a cordless kettle and a fridge freezer with the fridge compartment at the top.

The bathroom is spacious but lacks side access to the toilet.
